When I was a kid I loved playing video games, but as I got older I gradually slowed down until I just outright stopped playing. Until recently the last game that I played was during the pandemic. Recently I have gotten back into gaming and have rekindled my love for games after going years of never touching my game consoles unless I was moving. So here are some of my favorite games that I played before what I am calling The Great Divide in my gaming journey.
Hollow Knight is a metroidvania game following a small bug who travels through a ruined kingdom called Hallownest. You are able to control your own journey and through the story creating a very personal experience for the players. This atmospheric world has kept me enthralled for hours and wanting to know everything I can about the story.
Xenoblade Chronicles is a world taking place on the backs of two giants that are frozen in a clash. You follow the main character Shulk who wields a blade called the Monado and travels the world to end a war between man and machines. Between the world and beautiful terrains, wonderful characters, and story themes this game has forever been ingrained into my brain as one of my favorite pieces of media ever.
A remake of the original 2D Pokemon Silver that gave the game more modern 2D graphics. Pokemon SoulSilver was a game that I first played 15 years ago. This is my favorite game ever, anytime I open it up I am hit with a wave of nostalgia and pure joy. It also has one of my favorite soundtracks of all time, take the National Park theme. It's a beautiful piece for just a single location in the game that has been ingrained into my soul.
